Nel 1969, esattamente quarant'anni fa, i King Crimson pubblicavano In The Court Of The Crimson King, il loro disco d'esordio ma soprattutto il manifesto di quel nuovo linguaggio musicale che sarà battezzato "progressive". In quell'anno uscirono tanti altri album di gruppi essenziali per la nascita e la definizione del genere: Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes, Jethro Tull, Family, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd, Can e tanti altri. A quasi mezzo secolo di distanza, nonostante il progressive sia scomparso e poi si sia rigenerato per nuove generazioni di ascoltatori, è giunto il momento di una guida "definitiva" in materia, che abbia la funzione di presentare non solo i classici del genere, ma anche gli alfieri del "new progressive" contemporaneo, nonchè tutte le correnti e i sottogeneri costantemente ignorati nelle iniziative editoriali.

Il rock italiano degli anni Settanta, per conoscerlo, va "percorso". I dischi sono l'ideale macchina del tempo: ci trasportano dal beat alla psichedelia, dal progressive al punk, dai cantautori alla new wave. Ma il vero viaggio passa attraverso città e periferie, province e regioni, toccando isole, laghi e montagne, alla ricerca di un underground locale dove fermenta la musica. Perché dove c'è una casa c'è sempre una cantina, e lì, talvolta, si suona. Roma, Milano, Genova e Napoli tra "scuole" e discografìa; Firenze e Bologna che si guardano dagli Appennini, Torino e il suo jazz... Un itinerario storico per una geografia del rock italiano "da Palermo ad Aosta". BLACK HOLE - Land of Mystery Cd (Andromeda Relix) 4 bonus tracks!
Band veronese attiva lungo tutti gli anni ‘80, i Black Hole con il disco "Land Of Mystery" del 1985, si sono guadagnati la fama di band da culto tra gli appassionati di doom metal, con riferimenti esoterici. La band, guidata dal genio di Robert Measles, bassista/cantante e grande appassionato di occultismo, ha lasciato un segno indelebile tra i doom fan di tutte le epoche.
Completano la line up, il batterista Luther Gordon (futuro Sacrilege ed Epitaph) e il chitarrista Nicholas Murray (futuro ACTH). Nel 2000 l’Andromeda Relix, sempre dei Black Hole, aveva pubblicato il postumo "Living Mask", un album inedito del 1989. Il CD, oggi esaurito, unisce elementi doom metal con la new wave e il dark elettronico, rendendo il lavoro molto originale ed ancora attuale. Un album che anticipa il suono oscuro e decadente di questi ultimi anni. La copertina è tratta da un'opera del pittore Danilo Capua.

Il maggiore pregio di “Land of mystery” è comunque quello di suonare/apparire immortale; è uscito nel 1985, ma suona ancora moderno ai giorni nostri, e lo farà anche fra 20/30 anni. E’ musica senza tempo, e scusatemi se è poco.

Un'opera di difficile catalogazione ed interpretazione, me ne rendo ben conto, ma anche per questo molto affascinante e tremendamente originale, una ristampa che ha il sapore dell'omaggio all'artista/uomo Roberto Morbioli, resa ancor più alletante dalla presenza di ben quattro bonus track che fanno di questo "Land of Mystery" un disco per tanti ma non per tutti.

IRON MAN - Black Night Cd
Very few bands come close to sounding like the classic BLACK SABBATH,
but I think IRON MAN along with WITCHFINDER GENERAL, PENTAGRAM, and
PAGAN ALTAR are the closest from the beginning. IRON MAN is a very
special band to the underground heavy metal scene which craves for those
fans who seek dark/doomy sounds that SABBATH created and really there
are not many bands that even dared to try to re-create SABBATH with
their own twist, but I feel IRON MAN have done so without being a cut
and paste rip off band. This first album marks a birth of one of the few
bands like I mentioned above who dove in head first into that dark
atmosphere. This album is all about the riffs and heaviness, which if
SABBATH themselves would ever hear this, they probably would be
impressed too. There wasn't much salvaged from the early days of IRON
MAN , so the photos are limited, but we were able to re-master the album
to make it sound as heavy as possible.

REVELATION - For The Sake Of No One
Coming off their amazing comeback album, REVELATION are back again yet
for another album. Just when you think they've hit their peak, think
again. For The Sake Of No One is very much a continuation of the last
album so if you enjoyed the last album as much as I did, you'll be eager

that are 20 + years can keep up with their classic material and we're

REVELATION - ...Yet So Far
Revelation's 3rd full length album has been out of print for quite some
time now. This album features Dennis Cornelius and Jim Hunter along side
the staple of Revelation, Steve Branagan. This may be Revelation's most
accessible album to date. Longtime fans of Revelation know what to
expect, but newer fans on the fence should certainly check this album
out as it's a great album to start out with in their catalog.
Unfortunately the band did not have any bonus tracks for this re-issue.
All of the bonus material was released on the "Frozen Masque" CD by The
Miskatonic Foundation back in 2004. This album is fully re-mastered with
a nice booklet with a band write up, lyrics, and tons of old band photos
to cherish.

WOLFBANE - S/T
The N.W.O.B.H.M. technically speaking was the best Heavy Metal movement
of all -time. There are still bands today that grab influence from that
era of music and will continue to do so for as long as I live because
that's where it all stems from, all these genres of music, from thrash,
to death, to black, to God knows what else, this movement needs the
credit it deserves! Since there was such a big boom of bands that came
out of that movement, a TON of bands fell beneath the cracks and became
obscure quickly. There's still mountain of heavy metal that needs to be
kept alive and heard from old to new metal heads. Here we are today with
a perfect example of an amazing band that not only fell beneath the
cracks, but really never even put out an album, just a couple of demo
tapes before they went on to become a really good Thrash metal band
called BLOOD MONEY. They are arguably one of the best 80's Thrash bands
to come out of the U.K. WOLFBANE, now let's get down to business here.
This is the kind of heavy metal I love. I am a HUGE, if not the biggest
JUDAS PRIEST - Rock A Rolla fan you'll ever meet and I've never really
heard a band even come close to that style except for WOLFBANE! Think
early PRIEST and BLACK SABBATH mixed with PAGAN ALTAR styled vocals and
a sprinkle of RUSH and ALICE COOPER for good measure and somewhere in
that mess of great bands lies the sound of WOLFBANE. This is one of the
very best obscure gems to ever be released from this movement and
because the band never recorded an album, and they really didn't keep
much memorabilia from those days. Here you're going to get the first 2
demo tapes from 1981 and 1982 re-mastered and this is all the essential
material you need. There was a 3rd demo tape, but they went for a pop
radio sound and wasn't worthy to put on the release. If we're lucky, we
might get a BLOOD MONEY re-issue too.

REACTOR - The Real World
Back in the late 70's Richard Kueht and Paul Trowbridge played guitar in
PENTAGRAM before being replaced by Victor Griffin, who we're all
familiar with. They hooked up with Steve Angel (singer/bass) and drummer
Ronnie Sharpe and formed REACTOR. They played some live gigs in the mid
80's, one that is featured in this release. Shortly after the gig,
Richard moved down to Florida and was replaced by Mike Reid, and at that
time renamed the band THE REAL WORLD. They ended up only recording a 6
song studio EP which is the first 6 songs off of this release, that was
never released until now. As far as their sound is concerned, it just
came out natural for them, nothing forced, just basically some guys
jamming good old SABBATH/PENTAGRAM influenced dirty Rock N Roll with a
"social relevant" lyrical message to the fans. The music is raw, heavy,
and catchy. After many line-up changes (even Joe Hasselvander (he played
guitar) was in the band at one point), they decided to call it quits as
it was more or less something for these guys to hang around and do with
no pressure and to let off some steam rather than a band looking to go
somewhere. This is one of the most obscure 80's bands around the
Maryland/Virginia area, but I can tell you this is without a shadow of
doubt quality Heavy Metal/Rock and deserves to be in anyone's metal
collection who's looking to complete their Maryland/Virginia Doom
collection.

ARGUS - S/T
With those of you familiar with Butch era PENANCE (USA Classic Doom),
you already know how great his vocals are and those of you who aren't
will learn soon. ARGUS, a new and hungry band from the USA are very well
versed with the Maryland Doom Metal and Epic Heavy Metal scene. They
released a very well written Demo in 2007 on John Brenner's Bland Hand
Records as a download. For those of you that loved the Demo like I did,
this is what you would expect their full length to sound and then some!
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG fans are going to go absolutely nuts over this
album for the sheer volume of twin axe guitar shredding alone!! There
are a lot of catchy, layered riffs on top of many hooks and sing a long
choruses. On top of all these well-written Epic songs, there are
TROUBLE-eque Doom Metal break downs to die for feathered throughout the
album. Shall I say "instant classic"? That's for you to decide. Look for
them to release a 10" EP on one of my favorite labels, The Miskatonic
Foundation in the near future as well.

OSANNA & DAVID JACKSON - Prog Family 2Lp
Legendary Osanna is back! With a new line-up but still representing the spirit that was always typical for the original band, but with a new, dynamic, innovative and passionate sound. David Jackson from Van Der Graaf generator joined this project, becoming much more than a guest but a stable element of the band, contributing with a strong
added value, and so did guest stars Gianni Leone (Balletto di Bronzo), David Cross (King Crimson), Tim Stevens, Lello Brandi and the other guests, who enriched the project with their talent and creativeness, creating a true and deep-hearted homage to this historical band.
Lino Vairetti knew how to gather a real "Prog family" rearranging Osanna's classic tunes keeping the vintage sound of the electric and acoustic guitars, synths as Mellotron and Hammond, and especially the flute and saxophone of David Jackson. The Cd also includes a stunning version of Theme One by Van Der Graaf Generator!

ADRIAN SHAW & ROD GOODWAY - Oxygen Thieves Lp/Cd
New album by Adrian Shaw & Rod Goodway, which came about by two old friends getting together and making some music just to see what 'develops'. Adrian wrote and recorded all the music and Rod wrote and sang all the lyrics. Recorded at Ade's home studio between May 2008 and February 2009. "Oxygen Thieves" features fabulous progressive, psychedelic recordings, the emphasis alternately shifting from acid/space rock to blues, folk and beyond.
A sitar-saturated magic carpet ride in Saddar Bazaar vein will open your mind; rootsy psych-blues echoing Capt.
Beefheart will transfer you to the right place. M esmerizing heavy psych rock takes you through the looking glass into a surreal dreamzone. You will navigate through mellow folk, guitar magic in best Bevis Frond art, "Tomorrow never knows" Beatle-esque playfulness, fuzz loaden, melodic progressive psychedelia recalling the Smell of Incense/High Tide/Caravan. All richly and elaborately instrumented by Ade, while Rustic Rod's vocals remain singular yet versatile.

Adrian 'Ade' Shaw and 'Rustic' Rod Goodway first met in 1967 and the subsequent band was named J.P.SUNSHINE, the album of which was completed in 1968. After working together briefly again in 1970 on the somewhat misunderstood RUSTIC HINGE (& THE PROVINCIAL SWIMMERS) project they formed MAGIC MUSCLE. After touring support for HAWKWIND in 1972 (whom Adrian Shaw joined in 1977, playing on the albums "Quark Strangeness & Charm" and "PXR5" ) the MM band had several re-unions over the years, the 1988 tour "One Hundred Miles Below" (including original guitarist Huw Gower) being recorded for posterity. Released in 1989 Adrian & Rod did a few gigs under the old name along with Nick Saloman (guitar) and Martin Crowley (drums), but this soon mutated into The MAGIC BEVIS MUSCLE FROND for gigs in Germany & London ... before both Rod & Adrian joined THE BEVIS FROND for an extensive European Tour and mini LP "Earsong" (Reckless label), which featured the band playing in Faelled Parken, Copenhagen in 1990. Adrian Shaw continues to tour and record with The Bevis Frond and has released several solo

David Os is the guru of Aqua Nebula Oscillator,with his band he live 40 years after his invention the psychedelic Experience. Born in 2000,Aqua Nebula Oscillator quator preaches the psychedelic through his hypnotical music.

Every concert of the band is a total trance Experience. Into his spaceship,David Os & his brothers crossed Europe from East to West. In 2003,the movie "Van International" of Juan Trip recall this adventure.Since his 7 years old kid,the drummer of the band is projected inside an Hippie Community in the Pyrénées (France). The band changed 3 times members and now Vince,Simon and Shazzula joined the band definitively!
BIO:
Aqua Nebula Oscillator is not a new band. Well, not really a new band.... There‘s already some kind of story, even of legend around them. A legend that begins in London, at the end of the previous millennium, when David Spher’Os bets on digging up the dark side of psychedelia. But closer to the Seeds than to the Beatles…

Step by step, by haunting the right catacombs, Aqua Nebula Oscillator finally made the right encounters, in particular the 2 following characters. The first is Juan Trip, an atypical musician and video maker, who was the drummer of the band before becoming the producer of the record Under The Moon of... The second being Romain Turzi, who signed the band to his label “Pan European Recording” in 2007 and published their first eponymous album immediately afterwards.
Since, the composition of the band did fluctuate. It took some time to David Spher’Os (fuzz guitar, organ, sitar, vocals) to meet the creatures of darkness that surround him today: Shazzula (vocals and oscillations), latex princess with a poisonous look, Vince Posadzki, tribal rhythm drummer that takes the audience into an immediate state of trance, and, finally, Simon, a fuzzy bassist who plays lead permanently, in the great tradition of Lemmy Kilmister during Hawkwind period.

Under The Moon of... is nothing but a confirmation. The promises of the first album (out only six month before) have been kept. More than ever under the influences of MC5, Sun Ra, Hawkwind, and Silver Apples, Aqua Nebula Oscillator got locked up with Juan Trip to produce 50 minutes and 54 seconds of pure punkadelika. A music that recalls Theodore Sturgeon’s Cosmic Rape, the unlikely encounter of an extraterrestrial force and a human intelligence. Under The Moon of... lays the foundations of a sci-fi heavy metal music. A guilty but fascinating mating.

The music is furious, urgent and captured live in some improbable places, which let you think that no need of luxurious and sanitized recording studios when a band a has got THAT SOUND... Just listen to these mystical pearls, like Can you see or Beware.
Under The Moon of... is a blatant evidence of the vitality of this psychedelic renewal that no official medium had forecast. A bloody theater filling the concert halls (Aqua Nebula’s battlefield, of course) and that benefits from a (Pan) European audience hungry for ultimate experiments. Constantly oscillating between Hammer and Roger Corman’s films, between gothic aesthetic and US garage efficiency, Under The Moon of..., Aqua Nebula Oscillator’s last album is about to take possession of your decks and won’t let you walk away. Although Bela Lugosi, the most famous of the undead, had warned you: “Beware! Beware! They Came For Your Children!”. In a word, you’re fucked!










BULLFROG Beggars & Losers Cd
Bullfrog blues is the name of an old traditional american song, (covered also by Canned Heat and Rory Gallagher) but Bullfrog is the name of a band from Verona, Italy who plays good old classic hard rock! The band was formed in 1993 from the ashes of other important bands from Verona (Great Fish, Capricorn, Highshooter, Hitchers). Starting as a cover band, the group plays songs by Free, Bad Company, Grand Funk, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, and other blues standards. The sound is pretty much reminiscent of the classic power-trios of the 70's, with a lot of room for improvisations and solos. In a while Bullfrog begin to gain a reputation as a live band, playing also at various biker festivals, with shows often lasting more than four hours! Gradually, as a natural development, the band begins to write and play their own material, clearly showing the love for the great rock of the 70's. In 2001 Bullfrog finally enter the studio to record their
Debut album “Flower On The Moon”, for the Andromeda Relix label. The album includes nine original compositions, plus one interesting cover of “Sail On, Sail Away”, originally recorded by Moxy, a great and sadly forgotten Canadian band from the 70’s. To this day the CD is getting great reviews from all the most important music magazines.

In May 2002, Bullfrog debut on television, for the live show “Terremoto” on the Matchmusic channel, performing unplugged versions of “Trouble In Paradise” e “Flower On The Moon”. In March 2003, the song “Stranger To The Danger” is included in the compilation CD “Burn!”, sold with the new rock magazine Classix.
In April 2004, a new CD is published, “The Road To Santiago”, a great work of pure hard rock, including nine original compositions and a cover version of the James Gang classic “Walk Away”. Stylystically close to the previous record “Flower On The Moon”, “The Road To Santiago” shows a much better production, and a growing musicianship. In the following months the album gets rave and enthusiastic reviews from critics and magazines. The songs Sundance and The road to Santiago are included in two compliation albums of local bands “MusicAlive#2” and “Tales”, the first being also aired on the national radio program “Demo” on RAI Radio1. The new album, “BEGGARS & LOSERS”, is out in March 2009. Once again, the music recalls the great hard rock giants of the 70's but still the personality of the band is stronger than ever. The band also had the privilege to be the opening band for some of the biggest heroes of hard rock, always winning audiences and gaining heartfelt compliments from the headliners too. December 13/2003, Brescia: opening band for the John Lawton Band (legendary singer in Uriah Heep and Lucifer's Friend) April 9/2005, Verona: opening band for Micky Moody & Bernie Marsden (legendary guitarists in Whitesnake). Atomic Workers’ Third Disaster is astonishing. A true Unidentified Sonic Object. A spaceship, a time capsule coming from the past depths of hard rock planet such as from the future kingdoms of the so called post-rock. The space-rock, garage, psychedelic groove expands itself here as an overwhelming attitude instead of lying just as a mere gender label. As a result of a flexible and ductile line-up, that provides richness in sounds and harmonies, with keyboards, strings, electronic machines on the huge guitars floors, the music stream, along with touching lyrics, traces a unique and atmospheric organism, track by track. In the end, Atomic Workers sound far more than a simple band: not properly a superband, nor just an individual creativenesses addition, rather a confident collective aimed to multiply its creativeness, thanks to the accurate and powerful sound engineering too. The symphonic ambition of this third album is fully justified by the olistic vision of the music work. Excellent.

BALLETTO DI BRONZO Live in Rome DVD
For many years there was a gap. Now filled by a testimony which is to be welcomed as a precious gift. This is the first official video recording of a band of unattainable artistic and historical value. Besides a few sporadic television appearances of the Sirio 2222 line-up, there is no past footage of Balletto di Bronzo, the band that gave birth to Ys in 1972: a sensational work.
This very lack of iconography triggered through the years a spontaneous chain reaction of appreciation all over the world, even without any form of promotion, and fed the aura of legend which, to these days, surrounds the band.
This testimony represents what Balletto di Bronzo is today, as a trio, captured without any nostalgic intent, in the intimacy of a performance held on 21 September 2007 in a club in Rome (Stazione Birra).
The focus is mainly on the the band as a whole, to the detriment of its leading member Gianni Leone’s exhibition, who would usually play as “guest of himself”, opening up his band’s concerts with personal interpretations of works by Todd Rundgren, Marianne Faithfull, Brian Eno and other artists, as well as with various experiments and unpublished compositions of his own.
The great novelty offered by this Dvd is the presence of four brand new and previously unreleased songs: Napoli Sotterranea, Deliquio Viola, Certezze Fragili and L’Emofago, perfect syntheses of Leone/LeoNero’s multifaceted soul: dark, progressive, new wave, electropop, songwriter, rock, atonal, free jazz and avant-garde, at the same time.
The version of Ys is deliberately reduced in order to give space to the more recent production, in accordance to Leone’s wishes. In fact this format is destined to their concerts in Rome and in other cities where Balletto di Bronzo has performed more frequently in recent years. Whereas, abroad and in the rest of Italy, the suite is usually presented in its unabridged version.
In “Gianni Leone Solo” Leone has impressively re-arranged the songs Introduzione/Primo Incontro/Napoli Sotterranea, and while performing offered typical stage events such as the throwing of notes with the “great truths”, and the unrolling of a roller with ideograms and paint splashes on it, painted by Leone in 1983, when he dubbed himself LeoNero during his solo career, never before used on stage.

ELECTRIC SWAN is a solo project from WICKED MINDS guitarist and founding member,LUCIO CALEGARI. ELECTRIC SWAN was recorded in January/May 2008 at Mofo studio (Piacenza-Italy) by MARCO GANDOLFI distribuited worldwide from Black Widow records. It's a collection of new songs(some instrumental), 2 ten years-old wicked minds tracks never recorded before, and 3 covers: Tommy Bolin's "Teaser", Ruth Copeland's "Your love been so good to me" and Hetfield-Ulrich-Hammett-Burton's surprise. Lucio Calegari tried to paint the feelings and the dreams when he play guitar with a little help from his friends: Paolo "Apollo" Negri on Hammond and synths, Ricky Lovotti on drums, Enrico "Deep" Garilli and Edoardo Giovanelli on bass on some tracks and the wonderful voices from Sophya Baccini (Presence) and Luca "Mitch" Rancati(Tough).
